Accommodation and Food
The Hotel
We recommend to our visitors the Hostal Asencio. It is a family run hotel in the centre of the village. Owners Pepe and Isobel provide comfortable rooms with or without private bathroom and have reduced rates for single occupiers of a double room. Although this is, of course, optional, we prefer the group to gather for breakfast and evening meals in the hotel restaurant so that we can plan, and later celebrate, the day together. Traditional Spanish dishes cooked with local produce are served. Breakfasts are continental style. Evening meals are 3 course with red wine included. For more information including prices see the hotel website – www.hostalasencio.com/eng
In addition to the hotel there are self catering rental properties and a local campsite.
Food
While out on the trails you will observe the wealth of fruit and nut trees and vegetables growing on the terraced hillsides and in small family plots. There is a charming ancient Spanish tradition that states a passer-by is entitled to take one fruit to quench his or her thirst! Late Summer is the best time to come to enjoy the fragrant heavily laden fig trees but there are of course ample opportunities to be well fed at any time of the year! Walking groups usually eat breakfast and the evening meal at the hotel. Delicious and energising packed lunches can be prepared to order by the WalkSpain team. In addition you can sample the local tapas in the bars. With notice, we can cater for any special dietary requirements. To take some sunshine home with you, the local shops offer marinated olives, olive oil, honey, and tasty pastries filled with angel hair (cabello de angel), a sweet preserve made from a locally grown vegetable from the squash family. Spanish wine has in recent years improved vastly and there will be an opportunity to sample local wines and have a tour at one of our local bodegas.
