About Walk Spain

Our Guide - Davy

Davy has been an expedition leader in most climatic conditions and in diverse worldwide locations. Having served in the UK military and the United Nations for 23 years he now lives in Yunquera. Here he continues to lead groups and works in the office of the great outdoors.

Why is it called the Sierra of the Snows? Why are all the houses white? How do the many wild herbs relate to the local people’s traditions? David Johnston has all the answers and a wealth of other knowledge about this beautiful and fascinating area.

In addition to working for his own company, WalkSpain.com, David also leads walks for HF Holidays on their Camino De Santiago walks and for Andalucian Adventures. He maintains UK approved mountain incident handling and first aid qualifications.

Davy at work

Davy writes a monthly outdoor column published in Inland Magazine and writes on outdoor issues for both print and internet outlets. He has appeared on Living in Spain TV and contributes to REM radio 104.8FM and Coast and Country radio 106FM. He lives where he leads and takes great pride in showing all aspects of the Sierra De Las Nieves to WalkSpain guests from the locality, Europe and Worldwide. In addition to his knowledge of the local flora and fauna, he specialises in Spanish history and anthropology. Originally from Ireland he can be said to have “a touch of the Blarney”.

Davy

Competitive walking to achieve high speeds and distances are not Davy’s style. His walkers enjoy the views with his explanations and commentaries.
